I was playing R-Type [KLOV or Official Link] on my MAME box last weekend…. Let me back up slightly. I was watching TV last sunday, bored as hell, thinking I should be doing something. DDR? no. Need For Speed Carbon? No.
Now that game pissed me off… (N4S Carbon) I was at the second last race, or rather, at the part where I have to race all 3 bosses before the 1 big boss. I was kickin’ as in my Ford GT but was thinking of getting a Tuner with better handling. So, I sell the GT. GUess I missed something in the manual, cause I only got half it’s worth! SO I’m boned now. I finished all the races, don’t have a kickass car anymore, and not enough cash to buy it back! Fuck me if I’m going to start that game again.
Anyhoo, R-Type. No wait, couch… I’m on the couch… and I spy the MAME box in the corner.
You know, I think I remember a post, prolly the first post, that said this was going to be a project site. I haven’t added any project work/info/updates for a long time.
I’ve been meaning to add in my telescope building pictures, my MAME plans and pictures, and some electronics stuff… but lazy like I am, nothing is getting done. I will be building a shop soon, and plan to set up a web cam or something like that to get time delay of the building going up. cool eh? We’ll see if I remember.
But looking at that Mame box from the couch, I could see that it needs more work… (just like the cardboard blinds I have covering the window. Meh, works.) I want to redo the panel and finish the monitor bezel, add some art work, then I’m thinking LCDs are cheap now, could put in one of those instead of the TV… Wife would kill me though. She needs a new monitor before the MAME box does.
But then, I hardly play it anymore, so why spend time on it again? Ok, better play a game or two… As I fire up the system, I hit a few buttons. There’s nothing like authentic arcade buttons. The way they click, the tactile feed back… being able to hammer on them… way more cathartic than an xbox controller or a keyboard.
I start scrolling thru the list of games and settle on R-Type. Played this one a lot when my brotherinlaw was out for Christmas a few years ago. Sheesh. THat’s three XMasses ago now… We played it for hours, Luckily, I don’t have to plug quarters in all the time or I’d be broke!
RType is a reallly fun game that’s got cool weapon upgrades and some very challenging levels. I can’t get past Level 6. It’s so challenging, it’s frustrating as hell. But i’m looking forward to playing a few rounds tonight.
But playing the game reminds me that I need to update the mame software, and the box, and this site with more projects, and that I need to do more projects, and get off the couch. Stupid couch.
